Second Annual Mother-Daughter & Ladies Tea - February 5, 2011
Sugar and spice and everything nice. From toddler to grandmother, ladies gathered for a spot of tea at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Concordia. The second annual Mother-Daughter & Ladies Tea, sponsored by the parish’s Family Life Office, attracted nearly 200 to celebrate and share the joy of their femininity in God’s family. This year’s sugar and spice theme emphasized that true feminine attractiveness is quite counter-cultural. Modest dress, whether casual or formal, can be elegantly fashionable, stylish, and attractively feminine.
White table clothes provided the backdrop for candle and floral center pieces, welcoming mothers, daughters, sisters, and girlfriends to an afternoon of pampered refreshment. While chatting about this and that, the ladies—young and not so young--enjoyed a sugar and spice finger food buffet of cupcakes, cookies, fruit, chocolate tipped strawberries, and, of course, punch and Huckleberry Tea House’s Hot Cinnamon Spice tea. To commemorate the event, guests were offered the opportunity to have their photographs taken at no cost, courtesy of Lisa Camfield. And the imaginations of the youngest set whisked them into the past as they played dress up in proper Victorian garments and hats.
An afternoon of womanly sharing culminated with a fashion show designed to please guests with dress from daytime casual to evening elegance. All outfits were chosen to depict the beauty of the modestly dressed girl or lady, a beauty reflecting their image and likeness in God.
After two hours of relaxation, guests tricked back to their God-ordained lives refreshed and with a modest yearning for next year’s ladies’ tea.
